Bill Lyerly

March 17, 1931-April 25, 2007

He was originally from Kannapolis North Carolina.

He moved his family to Jacksonville Florida in 1960. He served 39 years in the US Air Force and Florida Air National Guard. He retired from the railroad industry after 35 years of service with the Atlantic Coastline and CSX.

He leaves with us his wife Betsy and daughters Teresa, Sheila and Angela and their children. Bill also leaves behind a great number of friends and associates.

He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jacksonville for 47 years. Bill was a founding member of TRIO (Transplant Recipient International Organization) Bill was one of the first people here to get a heart transplant. Bill was also one of the original members of the North Florida Computer Society and later thecomputersociety.org

I attended his funeral service and I was struck by something. Often at funerals the speeches are exaggerated in how nice the deceased was and how good to their families they were and how they did this and that, in the community. For Bill none of that had to be made up, which is a fine testimony to his character and life. God rest him, he will be missed and remembered.
