UNSHARP MASK IN PHOTOSHOPWe will show two types of sharpening using Photoshop Unsharp Mask feature. 1st we will show the original photo...
Second we will show the menu for unsharp mask...
Thirdly we will show settings for a good general sharpening..
Below is the result..
Next we will show a common setting for sharpening for web graphics and screen images...(not for printing out on paper)
Below is the result for this more extreme sharpening...
Now please remember that the settings for unsharp mask can be experimented with, these two examples are just a starting point for your experiments with your digital photos. The term unsharp mask is one inherited from the darkrooms of film printing. It is superior to sharpen comands. Most good graphics programs have the unsharp mask filter. A problem is that the settings vary from one program to the other quite a bit. So if you are using Gimp or Fireworks or some other program play with the settings and see what you can do. Sharpening can ruin a photo or help out a lot. The more gentle the effect is used, for most purposes, the better off your photos will be. Take a look at the results side by side with the original
