The Gimp Free photo editor layers

Gimp is free it is not Photoshop but free is something...

..see our software page, 7 or 8 down is Gimp.

The Gimp works close to Photoshop and Fireworks but is just different enough to confuse. We will start with two photos, one is called untitled2.0 and the other is called Lew02.jpg

We are going to copy the part of Lew02 that has former President Lew Greer in it and leave the black background behind and then paste it into untitled2.0. To select the black background we will use the magic wand tool as shown below. You may have to hold down the shift key and click around in the black a bit to get a solid selection of the black.

After you get the selection done invert the selection..

This will select Lew and leave the black behind. Then copy and paste the selection into the untitled 2-0 picture.

The result is not exactly balanced, so we select the layer called here empty layer and move it to the left bottom corner.

Here is the result....

]

Just for laughs we are turning off the layer called background copy by selecting the eye icon and clicking it off. This works in most Photo programs that have layers.

Here is the completed jpg
