How to copy Real Media Files to hard driveStep 1.First thing in copying a Real Media File to your hard disk is to find a file you want to copy. In the following example it is Risk in The U.S. Economy from the Dianne Rheem show in Real Player format. Right click on the "Listen with real player link."
Then File "Save As" the the resulting RAM file to somewhere on you hard drive. In this case a folder called copymedia.
Step 2.After it is saved go to the copymedia (whatever)folder and open it and open the ram file with wordpad or note pad text editor.
This is what the inside of a ram file looks like. What you want out of it is the http reference to the actual file, which in this case is on the second line and is called r1050113.rm. Can you see that below? Copy that line http://achives.wamu.org/real/2005/dr/ r1050113.rm
Step 3.Then paste this line into a new notepad or wordpad document that you will save as a web page in html. All that is added is the <a href=" " surrounding the url. and the closing </a> html tag line. Do not worry about understanding this if you do not, just do it and it will work. In this example I called the resulting file radiosave.html . Do not forget to name your file whatever.html or it will not work. I am calling this example file radiosave.html in notepad. Below is what it looks like.
Step 4. Final stepAfter it is saved and closed then open the radiosave file, right click the link you have made and save target as. (If you are connected the Internet) When you do "Save the Target As" (shown below) the actual file not a .ram or .ra pointer file will begin to download to your hard drive for you to listen to off line at any time or to put on a cd if there is no copyright restriction.
Below is a screen capture of this file being downloaded successfully
Good luck and happy listening to Real media files. There are types of real files that are more complicated than this and cannot be dealt with here . This was complicated enough. But if you want to get any Real file they can be had by using a program called Streambox, way more complications and legal issues there. When in doubt don't! |
