Here is how to record Actions in Photoshop 7. Actions are a way of recording steps you may want to use often.

Open a photo and look on the right hand side for the Actions window. If it is not there, go to the Window menu in Photoshop and check it.

Once you have decided to take the steps you want to record click on create new action as shown below.

Begin the process by clicking on Record. You should name the action something that means something to you. (do not use Action 1 as shown below.) If you want a Function key to trigger the Action assign one now. In this case I have chosen the F9 key. Function Keys are the physical keys at the top of most keyboards. When you press that key (F9 or whatever) the Action you assign to it will be done automaticly. What a time saver!

In this case the Action I want to record is Unsharp Mask.

I set the Unsharp Mask settings the way I want to use them often below.

We click ok on Unsharp Mask in this example. We then stop the recording as shown below and it is saved to be used over at any time.

On my system I have set the function key F9 to do this Action. Actions can have many steps, sometimes this will trip up a process that needs user input, so carefully construct Actions. If you make an error it is easy enough to delete an Action and start agin.
