To place a call In Netmeeting

In the Address bar, type one of the following:
e-mail address
computer name
telephone number
IP address
Then you click the "Place Call" button.

For our use here at thecomputersociety.org we recomend using the IP address as the method of placing a Netmeeting call. Why? By using the IP address directly you bypass servers and third party connections like MSN Messenger. There is nothing wrong with servers or Windows Messenger, except that they are slightly less secure and may require registration, sign ins and such.

The most secure method for a local Netmeeting call is to call another computer by phone number and bypass the Internet entirely, very much more secure. But also can be difficult to set up a computer to answer phone calls.

Notes

If NetMeeting can determine how to place the call, it does so automatically. Otherwise, the Place A Call dialog box opens. Then, in Using, click the appropriate connection type.

If you select security on a call-by-call basis, place your calls through the Place Call button rather than the Address bar or a SpeedDial. The Address bar and SpeedDial do not give you the Place A Call dialog box, which displays the Require security for this call check box.

To display a list of people you called recently, click the arrow next to the Address bar.

You can create a SpeedDial list for people you call frequently.
